My Joy is a feature film debut from the documentarian Sergei Loznitsa. The film follows Georgi, a truck driver in the Post-Soviet Russia. Georgi loses his way in the wild terrain of the Russian outback – metaphorically as well as literally. Slowly losing his mind, Georgi stumbles upon a village where he comes across several characters that further his psychosis: a prostitute, a gang of robbers, lawless cops, a gypsy, as well as a World War II veteran. At odds with the everyday madness of Russia, Georgi ‘s physical and mental health fail him, transforming him into a coldblooded murderer.
Loznitsa premiered My Joy at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2010 where it received positive reviews and critical acclaim.
